   Itinerary

Day 1

Guwahati - Tezpur (190 kms 5 hrs approx.)

Transfer from Guwahati airport/station to Tezpur. Little more than a utilitarian stopover for travellers journeying into Arunachal Pradesh or Upper Assam, Tezpur is a charming town with some beautifully kept parks, attractive lakes and enchanting views of the mighty Brahmaputra River as it laps the town’s edge. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2

Tezpur - Dirang (160 kms 4-5 hrs approx.)

After breakfast visit drive to Dirang. Dirang is an almost picture-perfect Tibetan – Monpa stone village marred only by the main road. Above the picturesque stone houses rises a steep rocky hill topped with Old Dirangs Gompa and several walls. Overnight at Dirang.

Day 3

Dirang - Tawang(150 kms 5 hrs approx)

After breakfast drive to Tawang En-route witness the snowcapped Sella Pass at 14000 ft and the Jaswant Garh War Memorial. (Legend has it that Jaswant (Mahavir Chakra Awardee (Posthumous) of 4th Batallion Garhwal Rifles), fought a lone battle against the invading Chinese during the 1962 war. His spirit is still believed to protect the place). Tawang is situated at an altitude of 3500m. The natural beauty and solitude of Gudpi and Chong-Chugmi ranges, Tawang chu River and Tawang Valley are mesmerizing. The inhabitants of the districts are all of Monpa tribes except Shyo village which is dominated by people of Tibetan Origin.Overnight at hotel.

Day 4

Tawang

Breakfast at the hotel. Proceed for sightseeing of 400 years (17th century) old Tawang Monastery which is the second largest monastery in the world after Potala Palace in Tibet. The building is about 113 feet long and 80 feet wide and houses valuable antiquities, books and manuscripts-handwritten and printed. Later visit Tawang War Memorial, a 40 foot high multi-hued memorial, has a structure constructed in stupa design. Dedicated to the martyrs of Sino-Indo War held in 1962, this memorial is nestled among beautiful peaks, which overlooks the Tawang-Chu valley. Rest of the day free to stroll round the streets of the town.Overnight in Tawang.

Day 5

Tawang - Bomdila (180 kms 6 hrs approx..)

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Bomdila. Bomdila is the headquarters of West Kameng district located at the height of 8500 ft above the sea level. It has a lot of attractions for the tourists with its cool climate, Apple orchards, artistic people, snow-capped Himalayan peaks and Buddhist Gompas. The Buddhist monastery of Bomdila is the repository of culture. Explore the town in the afternoon. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6

Bomdila - Guwahati (270 kms7-8hrs approx.)

After breakfast drive from Bomdila to Guwahati. The gateway to the northeast and the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the region, Guwahati serves as the starting block for most Northeast itineraries. It’s a somewhat featureless city – a prosaic heap of glass and concrete for the most part – but there are a scattering of interesting temples to explore. Walk its back alleys and old quarters, however, and you will be able to salvage a generous amount of local flavour that lingers amid its suburban sprawl of ponds, palm trees, small single-storey traditional houses and old colonial-era mansions. Overnight at hotel.

Day 7

Departure to Guwahati airport/station

After breakfast visit Kamakhya temple - The temple is dedicated to goddess Kamakhya an incarnation of Sati. It is on Nilachal hill, says the Shiva Purana, that the yoni or creative organ of Sati fell when Vishnu, in a bid to save the world from the Shiva’s tandava nrittya or dance of destruction, cut her dead body into 51 pieces with his suddarshan chakra. Also visit Navagraha Temple and Umananda Temple (by Govt. ferry). Later on transfer to the airport/railway station in time for onward connection.

Day 1

Guwahati Airport / Rly Station - Shillong (100 kms / 03 hrs.)

On arrival at Guwahati Airport / Railway Station & transfer to Shillong (4,900 ft.), called ‘Scotland of the East”. Enroute visit Umium Lake, a majestic placid lake with its surrounding sylvan hills. On arrival at Shillong, check in at your hotel. Overnight stay at Shillong.

Day 2

Shillong Sightseeing

After breakfast visit Don Bosco Museum, Ward’s Lake, Botanical Garden and Lady Hydari Park. Evening is free for personal activities. Overnight stay at Shillong.

Day 3

Inter Hotel/City Transfer from Shillong to Cherrapunji

After breakfast drive to Cherrapunjee (4,400 ft.), the wettest place in the world. On the way enjoy Mawkdok Valley, Nohkalikai falls, Dainthelen Falls and Ramkrishna Mission (drive pass). On arrival at Cherrapunjee, check in at your hotel. Overnight stay at Cherrapunjee.

Day 4

Explore Cherrapunji

After breakfast we get ready for a half day trek to visit the Double Decker Living Root Bridge deep inside the jungle. It will take 3 to 4 hrs (depending on the physical fitness of the person). Afternoon visit Nohsngithiang Falls (also known as the Seven Sisters Waterfalls or Mawsmai Falls), Mawsmai Cave, Koh Ram Hah and Ecopark. Evening back to the hotel. Overnight stay at Cherrapunjee.

Day 5

Inter Hotel/City Transfer from Cherrapunji to Guwahati

After breakfast check out from hotel & transfer to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey.

Day 6

Guwahati Local Sightseeing

After breakfast out to visit Kamakhya Temple, Tirupati Balaji Temple, Nabagraha Temple, Assam State Museum, State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, Regional Science Centre and Sukreswar Temple (The 6th Jyotirlinga of Shiva). Day 1

Transfer from Bagdogra Airport-IXB to Darjeeling

Assistance at the airport/railway station on arrival and drive to Darjeeling. DARJEELING: Standing high in the Himalayas at an altitude of 2134m, ‘Dorje Ling’, or place of the Thunderbolt, offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountain peaks, with the Kanchendzonga rising higher than all the others. Often referred to as the “Queen of the Hills”, it remains just as alluring with its tiny waterfalls, little villages and a narrow gauge railway track. Surrounded by World Famous Tea Gardens and snow capped mountains, Darjeeling remains one of the most exotic destinations. Graeme Westlake in his book ‘An introduction to hill stations on India’ refers to Darjeeling as having “A view Scarcely Unrivalled on Earth”. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2

Explore Darjeeling

Early morning visit Tiger Hill to see a beautiful sunrise and Himalayan Range like Kanchandzonga, Mount Everest etc. One can see the horizon changing colors just before sunrise and then the entire Himalayan range turn golden Breakfast at the hotel and proceed for city tour visiting Himalayan Mountaineering Institute(closed on Thursday) which was started by Tenzing Norgay after he climbed Mt. Everest, Zoological Park(closed on Thursday), Tenzing Rock, Gombu Rock, Tea Estate(from outside), Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3

Inter Hotel/City Transfer from Darjeeling to Gangtok

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Gangtok en route visiting Teesta Village. GANGTOK At an altitude of 1750m, Gangtok became the state capital in the mid 19th century and has undergone rapid development since then. The downtown area is dominated by huge government buildings decorated with traditional Buddhist symbols. Gangtok is also a resting ground for people traveling to North Sikkim. Surrounded by Monasteries and Orchids, Gangtok is truly a traveller’s delight.Overnight at hotel.

Day 4

Explore Gangtok

Breakfast at the hotel and proceed for full day sightseeing in Gangtok visiting Tashi View Point, Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok, Plant Conservatory, Handicraft, Institute of Tibetology, Do Drul Chorten, Ropeway (On Direct Payment) and Bakthang Falls.Overnight at hotel.

Explore Gangtok

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Kalimpong KALIMPONG At an altitude of 1250m, Kalimpong’s location is ideal for a pleasant, relaxed getaway. Its clement weather has made Kalimpong’s orchids and gladiole well renowned. Up to the early 1700s, the Kalimpong area was part of the Sikkim raja’s domain. In the early 18th century, the Bhutan king also took it over. In 1865, after the Anglo-Bhutan War , it was annexed to Darjeeling. Scottish Missionaries came here in the late 1800s. The town thrived as a wool trading center with Tibet till 1950s. Today it’s a quiet hill resort and a haven for retired people. Guwahati Airport / Rly Station - Shillong (100 KM | 3 HRS)

Day 2

Shillong - Laitlum Canyons - Krang Suri Falls - Shillong (115 KM | 4 Hrs Per Way)

After breakfast proceed to Laitlum Canyons for some breathtaking views. Then visit Krang Suri Falls. It is one of the best waterfalls in Meghalaya. You can also swim in a naturally formed pool here. You can also go behind the waterfall and see the water falling in front of you. After Lunch return back to Shillong. Overnight at Shillong.

Day 3

Shillong - Mawsynram - Mawphlang Sacred Forest - Shillong ( 60 KM | 1.5 Hrs Per Way)

After breakfast visit Mawsynram, which as per the new geological reports, receives the highest rainfall in the world. The area is known for its caves. Later visit Mawphlang Sacred Grove. It is one of the biggest Sacred Groves in Meghalaya. It is a well preserved forest by local community. Nothing can be taken out from the forest as this is being protected by the local deities. Visit Khasi model village. In the evening return to Shillong. Visit Elephanta Falls and Shillong Peak for some breathtaking views. Overnight stay at Shillong.

Day 4

Inter Hotel/City Transfer from Shillong to Cherrapunji

After breakfast visit Mawlynnong Village the cleanest village in Asiaa. This cute and colorful little village is known for its cleanliness. It is situated 90 kms. From Shillong and besides the picturesque village, offers many interesting sights such as the Living Root Bridge and the strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock. After that proceed to Dawki, Dawki is along the Indo-Bangladesh border. You can enjoy boating in the crystal clear waters of the Umgnot River. Evening proceed to Cherrapunjee. Overnight at Cherrapunjee.

Day 5

Explore Cherrapunji

Get up early to enjoy the mesmerizing mornings of Cherrapunjee. Visit Eco Park, Dainthlen Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, Nohsngithiang Falls (Seven Sisters Falls), Mawsmai Cave, Thangkharang Park. Overnight stay at Cherrapunjee. Optional Activity- Proceed for a full day trekking to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge at Nongriat Village. Need to trek approx. 3200 steps each way to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge. We can further trek down to the Rainbow Falls which take about 60 to 90 minutes from the Double Decker Living Root Bridge.

Day 6

Inter Hotel/City Transfer from Cherrapunji to Guwahati

After breakfast proceed to Guwahati. Arrive and check in at hotel. Visit Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra a place where Assamese history and culture is presented, one may also visit the Assam Film Museum to know the History of Assamese Cinema. Visit GTAC Tea Lounge to enjoy a cup of finest Assam Tea and also carry some Tea back home. Here you will find the finest quality of Organic, CTC, Orthodox, Green Tea, White Tea, Purple Tea etc. Evening you may take a River Cruise (Direct Payment) on the mighty River Brahmaputra. Day 7

Hotel - Guwahati Airport / Rly Station from Guwahati

After breakfast visit Kamakhya Temple (Timing: 08:00 A.M till 01:00 P.M & 3:00 P.M till its gets dark). Transfer to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey. Arrive Guwahati -Shillong (110 kms 3hrs approx.)

Transfer from Guwahati airport/railway station to Shillong en route visit Umium Lake. Shillong became the first capital of the State of Meghalaya. Located in undulating pine covered hills, the city has a milder climate than tropical India. The city centre is 1496m above sea level and currently has a population of around 270,000. Home to several waterfalls, it is also known as the Scotland of the East. The British legacy is still visible in the architecture and food habits of the population. Overnight at Shillong.

Day 2

The town of Cherrapunji is nestled in the East Khasi Hills about 50 km southwest of the state’s capital, Shillong. Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra or Churra, means ‘the land of oranges’. The cliffs of Cherrapunji also offer stunning views of the plains of Bangladesh. Visit to Arwah Cave, Nahkhalikai Falls, Mwasmai Cave, Seven Sister Falls, Dainthlen Waterfalls and Eco Park and Wei Sawdong Waterfalls. Shillong - Kaziranga (320 kms 7 hrs approx.)

After breakfast drive from Shillong to Kaziranga. Kaziranga National park is a world heritage site famous for the Great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros. The landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes and shallow pools. Kaziranga also has a good number of Tigers and is home to large breeding population of Elephants, Wild Water Buffalo and Swamp Deer. Overnight at hotel.

Kaziranga

Early morning elephant ride at the park & return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast visit Kaziranga Orchid & Biodiversity Park. Later Jeep Safari in the Central range of the park. Overnight at hotel.

Day 5

Kaziranga - Guwahati (230 kms 4 hrs approx..)

After breakfast drive from Kaziranga to Guwahati. The gateway to the northeast and the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the region, Guwahati serves as the starting block for most Northeast itineraries. It’s a somewhat featureless city – a prosaic heap of glass and concrete for the most part – but there are a scattering of interesting temples to explore. After breakfast visit Kamakhya temple - The temple is dedicated to goddess Kamakhya an incarnation of Sati. It is on Nilachal hill, says the Shiva Purana, that the yoni or creative organ of Sati fell when Vishnu, in a bid to save the world from the Shiva’s tandava nrittya or dance of destruction, cut her dead body into 51 pieces with his suddarshan chakra. Also visit Navagraha temple, Umananda temple, Balaji Temple, state Zoo. Overnight in Guwahati.

Day 1

Arrive Guwahati - Shillong (110 kms 3hrs approx.)

Transfer from Guwahati airport/railway station to Shillong en route visit Umium Lake. Shillong became the first capital of the State of Meghalaya. Located in undulating pine covered hills, the city has a milder climate than tropical India. The city centre is 1496m above sea level and currently has a population of around 270,000. Home to several waterfalls, it is also known as the Scotland of the East. The British legacy is still visible in the architecture and food habits of the population. Overnight at Shillong.

Day 2

Shillong - Dawki & Mawlynnong - Shillong (90 kms 3 hrs each way)

After breakfast drive from Shillong to Dawki(Indo-Bangladesh Border) and Myallynnong Village. Morning drive to Dawki, visit Indo-Bangladesh border and Umngot River (one can enjoy country boat ride here on direct payment basis). Later on proceed to the Mwallynnong village. Mawlynnong Village located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, also referred as ‘God’s own garden’ has won the acclaim of being the cleanest village in Asia in 2003. The village known for its cleanliness is located around 90 kms from Shillong and is a community based eco-tourism initiative. The community has made collective effort to maintain the ambience of a clean village. The village offers picturesque natural beauty, a trek to the living root bridge at a neighbouring village Riwai. Explore Darjeeling

Early morning visit Tiger Hill to see a beautiful sunrise and Himalayan Range like Kanchandzonga, Mount Everest etc. One can see the horizon changing colors just before sunrise and then the entire Himalayan range turn golden.
